Yuma Border Patrol and Yuma Police thwart human smuggling

Yuma, Arizona.- Thanks to the work in conjunction between Yuma Sector Border Patrol and City of Yuma Police Department a human smuggling attempt was thwarted past Wednesday morning.

U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Yuma Station worked in conjunction with the Yuma Police Officers and the Yuma Air Branch to capture nine subjects who bailed out of a vehicle during a human smuggling attempt.

Yuma Sector camera operators spotted the group of migrants illegally cross the border near the Andrade, California Port of Entry and get into a white Ford Expedition. Agents tracked the vehicle as it traveled east and eventually pulled over near 6th Avenue and 4th Street, where the occupants fled on foot. Agents caught and arrested five subjects, including the driver.

YPD officers assisted and apprehended the remaining four subjects.

All were transported to Yuma Sector for processing.

The driver, a Mexican national with Lawfully Admitted for Permanent Residence (LAPR) status, faces smuggling charges.
