Victim of fatal injury collision in Yuma identified by Police

YUMA, Arizona.- The pedestrian, in the case of the recent report of an injury collision in Yuma has been identified as 70-year-old Maria Cecilia Chavez, who, according to Yuma Police Department succumbed to her injuries on September 6th, 2022.
On Thursday, September 01, 2022, at approximately 3:46 p.m., Yuma Police officers and Traffic Investigators were dispatched to 8th Avenue and 24th Street for a report of an injury collision.
The initial investigation revealed a 60-year-old female, driving a Toyota Rav4, turned left onto 24th Street from 8th Avenue, striking a 70-year-old female pedestrian. The pedestrian was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center by the Yuma Fire Department for treatment and is pending air transport to a Phoenix-area hospital for advanced care.
The pedestrian was working as a school crossing guard at the time of the accident and a reflective vest was worn.
There have been no reported injuries to any children from this accident.
Neither alcohol nor speed appear to be a factor in the collision.
This case is still under investigation.
