Brush fire burns total of 124 acres in Winterhaven

Imperial County, Arizona- On Sunday, March 19, 2023, a brush fire initiated in a zone between Winterhaven and Yuma.
According to KYMA TV, Rural Metro Fire Department gave an update on the brush fire that ignited near the River’s Edge RV Resort in Winterhaven.
The emergency corporation based in Yuma County, Arizona, said the call came in at around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 19.
On Tuesday, March 21, 2023 the Bureau of Land Management posted the following report:
Located approximately 5mi N/NE of Yuma, West of Laguna Dam Rd and North of E County 6th St, the fire is estimated at 100+ acres. We are currently assisting tribal partners and area fire personnel on a fire that started Sunday night burning on both AZ and CA sides of the Colorado River.
The fire is active this morning with much of the activity being on the North and West sides of the Colorado River. As the day becomes warmer there is potential for increased fire behavior.
Rural Metro said the fire chewed through a total of 124 acres, but there were no injuries.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is still under investigation.
